At Neuchâtel Junior College, we believe that meaningful learning happens when students are willing to step beyond what is familiar. Our students arrive curious about the world and ready for something more: a rigorous academic experience, a deeper sense of independence, and the opportunity to see themselves in a wider context. Set on the shores of Lake Neuchâtel, in the heart of French-speaking Switzerland, NJC offers a remarkable setting to begin that journey.

More than 20 years ago, I began my own career at NJC as a young teacher. I left with a backpack full of memories and a heart shaped by the College’s “Step Outside” philosophy. The mountains, the language, the relationships, the challenges and the daily discoveries all had a lasting impact on me, both personally and professionally. Returning now as Head of School is full circle and deeply meaningful. I am excited to help guide a new generation of students through this transformative experience.

NJC’s program is unique because it combines strong academics with immersive, experiential learning. Students live with local French-speaking families, learn in a close-knit community, and travel throughout Switzerland and Europe in ways that bring their studies to life. They encounter the history, cultures and ideas that have shaped our world, while developing the confidence, resilience and perspective to contribute thoughtfully within it.

The experience is not always easy, nor should it be. Growth comes from navigating new environments, taking responsibility, asking better questions and learning to connect with people whose experiences may be different from our own. Along the way, students discover that they are capable of more than they imagined. They return home with stronger academic skills, greater independence, lifelong friendships and a clearer understanding of the kind of impact they want to make.
